Vol. 151 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Fishing Fleet.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether the Glengad fishermen, whose boats were wrecked last December, have been offered replacements, and, if so, on what terms.

It is understood that four of the five boats lost were the property of local persons. One individual, who owned three of the vessels, requested and was supplied with particulars of second-hand vessels which An Bord Iascaigh Mhara had for sale, but he has not pursued the matter with the board. The other owner has not approached the board regarding the replacement of his vessel. The fifth boat was still under hire-purchase with the board when lost and the residual amount to credit of the hire-purchase account after crediting the amount of insurance received has been paid to the hire-purchaser. He has not requested the assistance of the board in acquiring a replacement boat. The board is prepared to give the most sympathetic consideration possible to any applications that may be made to them for the replacement of boats in these cases.
