1. The figures relate to the year ended 31st March, 1954, the latest year for which audited figures are available.
2. The maintenance cost figure includes all running costs, i.e. operating costs, provision for depreciation and interest, and engineering maintenance costs. Engineering maintenance cost per instrument for the year ended 31st March, 1954, averaged £5.64 per telephone instrument.
