Vol. 152 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tax-free Supplies on Aircraft.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will consider taking such steps as are necessary to provide on Aer Lingus planes tax-free beer, spirits and cigarettes for travellers en route, as are provided by British and continental airlines.

Aircraft bound for places other than Great Britain and the Isle of Man are granted the same facilities by the Irish customs in regard to duty-free stores as are granted by the British customs. In the case of aircraft flying between Britain and this country, however, duty-free stores are not allowed nor are they allowed by the British authorities. The same position holds as regards ships. I am not satisfied the circumstances warrant an alteration of the present practice.
