Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - River Lee Flooding.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he he is now in a position to advise landowners along the Inniscarra Valley, whether they may carry on during the coming season their usual tillage within the projected contour of flooding for the Lee hydro-electric scheme.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the present programme for the construction of the Carrigadrohid station will result in the filling of the reservoir in the summer of 1956 and that it would not be possible to save crops in time from the lands affected. I am also informed by the board that, in the case of the Inniscarra power station, the current programme will result in filling the reservoir in the winter of 1956, but as certain preliminary clearing must be carried out it is possible that interference and damage to crops which might have been sown may occur. The extent to which it would be practicable to till the land in this reservoir area could only be determined by site inspection. I have been assured by the board that inquiries by any landholder who is in doubt about the position will be dealt with promptly by the board's local officials.
