Vol. 153 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigration Statistics.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the number of Irish persons who have emigrated by sea from Irish and British ports to (a) the United States, (b) Canada, and (c) Australia, in (i) 1953, (ii) 1954, and (iii) the first three-quarters of 1955.

I propose, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to circulate in the Official Report a statement giving the required information for the years 1953 and 1954. The only data for 1955 which are at present available, and are included in the table, relate to emigrants through Irish ports for the first eight months of the year.

Following is the statement:—

NUMBER of persons of Irish nationality who have emigrated from the State to the United States of America, Canada and Australia by sea through Irish and British ports in the years 1953-54 and January-August, 1955.
