Vol. 153 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Coastal Chart.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will consider making arrangements for the carrying out by the Air Corps of a coloured photographic reconnaissance of the waters off the east coast of the country in order to make available an up-to-date chart of the many sandbanks in the area.

As the requisite equipment and processing facilities are not available, the carrying out by the Air Corps of such a coloured photographic reconnaissance is not practicable.

Is the Minister aware of the fact that these sand bars are continually changing and that there is no up-to-date survey whatsoever of them? Would he not consider making a photographic survey available?

We can make the survey, but the colour photography is not so strong.

Would the Minister be able to produce an up-to-date chart without colour by photographic reconnaissance?

I will have the matter examined.
