Vol. 153 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Chefs and Waiters.

asked the Minister for Defence when he proposes to increase the wages of a number of civilian chefs and waiters in the employment of his Department by the small amount necessary to bring their pay up to the level of those employed in the same capacity elsewhere.

I am not yet in a position to say whether the wages of civilian chefs and waiters employed by my Department will be increased as indicated in the question as a final decision in the matter has not yet been reached.

Again I must draw the Minister's attention to the fact that this question has been down for nearly 20 months. There are only eight men involved and the actual amount is only £2 a week. Surely the Minister for Finance is not holding these men to ransom?

There are other sections involved.

My question deals with chefs only.

Nevertheless, there are other sections involved.
