Vol. 153 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Employment Scheme.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the total amount of grants from the Special Employment Schemes Vote allocated to County Donegal in the financial year 1953-1954.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement I propose with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:

COUNTY DONEGAL.

GRANTS ALLOCATED FROM THE SPECIAL EMPLOYMENT SCHEMES VOTE.

Types of Scheme

1953/54

No. of Schemes

State Grant

£

URBAN EMPLOYMENT SCHEMES

7

2,300

(Urban Districts of Buncrana, Bun doran and Letterkenny).

RURAL EMPLOYMENT SCHEMES

27

14,500

(County Council road and amenity schemes in rural areas).

MINOR EMPLOYMENT SCHEMES

379

37,385

(Accommodation roads).

BOG DEVELOPMENT SCHEMES

49

5,300

(Roads and Drains).

RURAL IMPROVEMENTS SCHEMES

63

12,519

(Accommodation Roads and Minor Drainage).

MISCELLANEOUS SCHEMES

3

1,736

(Minor Marine Works, Sportsfields, etc.).

NOTE.—Except in the cases of Minor Employment Schemes and Bog Development Schemes, for which full cost grants are normally given, the grants are subject to local contributions at rates ranging from 25 per cent. downwards.

Arising out of the reply I should like to say that what I wanted information on was the total amount of grants from the Emergency Schemes Vote and not from the Special Employment Schemes Vote.

But that is not the question the Deputy asked.

It is the question I submitted.

Try it again.

If there is plenty red tape, there is also plenty paper.
