Vol. 153 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary Sewerage.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware of the acute shortage of water in the village of Dundrum, County Tipperary, and of the grave danger to public health because of the open sewerage; and whether he has received proposals in the matter from the local authority, and, if not, if he will ascertain from that body the cause of the delay in submitting such proposals.

I am aware of the need for a piped water supply and sewerage in Dundrum. This village is included in one of a number of regional waterworks schemes which the Tipperary South Riding County Council propose to carry out in accordance with a scale of priorities determined by them on the recommendations of their technical advisers. Dundrum is third on this list, the first two being the Fethard regional scheme and an extension to the Galtee regional scheme to New Inn and Rosegreen. The planning of the scheme to serve Dundrum will be undertaken in accordance with this order of priority.

The provision of sewerage must await installation of the piped water supply.
