Vol. 153 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Workers: Pay Increases.

asked the Minister for Finance what action has been taken in connection with the claims for increased pay and better conditions for foremen and storekeepers on the Corrib, Glyde and Dee, Feale, Owenganny and Nenagh drainage schemes; further, why the application of 6th June, 1955, for the reception of a deputation on behalf of these men was not acceded to.

An increase of £1 a week has been authorised for foremen employed on arterial drainage schemes and will be paid with effect from 31st October, 1955. The other claims referred to in the question, some of which raise wide issues of a general nature, are still under examination, pending the completion of which the reception of a deputation by the Commissioners of Public Works, as requested, would not have served any useful purpose.
