Vol. 153 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Employment on Kerry Forestry Scheme.

asked the Minister for Lands whether, in view of the unemployment position in the Caragh Lake district, he will take steps to have an additional number of men employed on the local forestry scheme at an early date.

As the Deputy is aware the Caragh Lake forest area is part of Killorglin forest centre. There is employment for some 35 men at the centre this season, which compares very favourably with the figures of 18 and 24 men employed at the corresponding periods in 1953 and 1954, respectively. It would not be possible to take on additional men at present without disrupting the continuity of employment at the forest at a later date.
