Vol. 153 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will grant forestry workers an increase in wages proportionate to that given to other workers to meet the increase in the cost of living.

Forestry workers are paid the same rate of wages as is paid to roadworkers employed by the county councils of the county in which the forest lies. Under this arrangement any increase granted to roadworkers is automatically applied to forestry labourers. There have been substantial increases in the rates of wages paid to forestry employees in most counties over the past few years.
