Vol. 154 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Jet Aircraft Training.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the total cost incurred to date in training members of the Air Corps in the flying and maintenance of jet aircraft.

The total tuition cost incurred to date on such training is £730 approximately. In addition sums amounting to about £1,600 have been spent on the acquisition of equipment for familiarising technicians in the operation and maintenance of jet aircraft.

Can we take it that, in connection with this whole question of training in the flying and maintenance of jet aircraft and in the provision of landing facilities, it is proposed to spend over £1,000,000 between this year and the coming year on the scheme?

That is not the question the Deputy asked me.

Is it correct?

It is an entirely separate question.

Put down that question and I will answer it. The question asked was whether I would state the amount paid in training members. The Deputy has asked a completely different supplementary question.

I do not want to embarrass the Minister but there were two questions asked last week which disclosed (a) that almost £500,000 was being spent on the provision of runways and that £146,000 was to be spent on the purchase of aircraft.

That is an entirely separate question.
