Vol. 154 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Telephone Applicants.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what steps are being taken to ensure that telephones will be provided promptly for all applicants in the Dublin City area, and if he will state the number of applicants still awaiting service who applied in the period (a) up to 31st January, 1955, (b) 1st February to 31st December, 1955 and (c) since 1st January, 1956.

Major underground schemes are in progress in the city and suburbs to provide additional underground cables, shortage of which has been and is the main cause of delay in installing telephones in Dublin. All practicable steps to expedite the work, including the employment of contractors to supplement the Department's efforts are being taken.

The information requested in the second part of the question is as follows:—(a) 892; (b) 1,738; (c) 718.
