Vol. 154 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Division and Acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have prepared a scheme for the division of the Conroy lands, Ballintubber, County Roscommon, record No. S. 81271, and, if so, when it is likely to be put into operation.

This estate has been partly allotted. A scheme for the balance will be prepared as soon as possible.

Is the Minister aware that this estate was acquired on 1st January, 1947? Between 1947 and 1956 there was sufficient time for the Land Commission to prepare and to put into operation a scheme for the allotment of the 147 acres involved.

asked the Minister for Lands whether, with a view to stopping emigration from the parish, the Land Commission will consider the propriety of acquiring for division among the small and congested farmers in the area the lands of Mr. Michael Gallagher, Rinbane, Ballinacarrow, County Sligo, which were recently offered for sale.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the small-holding of 12½ acres, which was sold last year by Michael Gallagher to an adjoining farmer. The Land Commission do not propose to acquire this small-holding.

asked the Minister for Lands what progress has been made by the Land Commission towards the acquisition of the Boud estate, Shallee, Nenagh, County Tipperary.

The Land Commission have instituted proceedings for the acquisition of the Boud estate, but it is not yet possible to state what the outcome will be.
