Vol. 155 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Position of Agricultural Workers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether for the purposes of the Agricultural Wages Act, 1936, agricultural workers employed on State farms under his Department are regarded as agricultural workers, and whether his Department is regarded as an agricultural employer.

I am advised that, in the absence of express provision, agricultural workers employed on State farms under my Department do not come within the scope of the Agricultural Wages Act, 1936.

These workers are, of course, in fact paid wages higher than the rates of wages current in the districts in which the farms concerned are situated.
