Vol. 155 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wage Rates.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the index number of wage rates in 23 industrial occupations at the beginning of 1956.

It has not yet been found possible to assemble all the material for the computation of the general index number of wage rates in 23 industrial occupations for the beginning of 1956. It is hoped, however, to have the index number compiled in about a month's time and I have arranged that when it is ready it will be furnished to the Deputy by the Central Statistics Office.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the index numbers of weekly rates of wages in the Dublin district at the beginning of 1956.

The index numbers of weekly rates of wages in the Dublin district at the beginning of 1956 were (to base January, 1939=100): Industrial, 226.0; Services, 225.1; Transport, 240.6; All Groups (weighted average) 228.7. These index numbers must at the present stage be regarded as provisional.
