Vol. 155 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo School Transport.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the grave hardship suffered by the children of the Davris, Hollymount area, County Mayo, because of the long distances they have to travel to school, and, if so, if he will make arrangements forth with for the provision of transport facilities to Cloghans National School for these children.

I am aware that there are some schoolgoing children residing in the Davris district who have more than the statutory distances to travel to school.

The question of the establishment or a transport service to a national school is, in the first instance, one for arrangement by the manager of the school concerned in conjunction with the local interested parties. If suitable arrangements are made locally for the conveyance of these children to the nearest suitable school, my Department will be prepared to consider the question of allowing a grant towards the cost of such conveyance.
