asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state in respect of each of the years 1954 and 1955 (a) the number of persons in receipt of unemployment assistance in the Belmullet office area, whose means were reinvestigated by officers of his Department, and (b) the number of cases in which assistance has been reduced.

Persons in receipt of unemployment assistance in the Belmullet local office area whose means were reinvestigated in the years 1954 and 1955 numbered 242 and 457 respectively. As a result of the reinvestigation in 1954 unemployment assistance was reduced in 111 cases, and total disallowance imposed in 13 cases; the corresponding figures for 1955 were 126 and 20 respectively.
