Vol. 156 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions Oral Answers. - Achill Unemployment Assistance.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state in respect of each of the years 1954 and 1955 (a) the number of persons in receipt of unemployment assistance in the Achill office area whose means were reinvestigated by officers of his Department, (b) the number of cases in which assistance was reduced, and (c) the number of cases of total disallowance of assistance.

Persons in receipt of unemployment assistance in the Achill local office area whose means were reinvestigated in the years 1954 and 1955 numbered 79 and 99 respectively. As a result of these reinvestigations, unemployment assistance was reduced in 11 cases, and total disallowance imposed in two cases in 1954; the corresponding figures for 1955 were 16 and one respectively.
