Vol. 156 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Omeath Afforestation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state the present position in regard to the proposed afforestation scheme for Omeath, County Louth.

As the Deputy was informed in reply to a previous question, areas totalling approximately 580 acres in the Omeath area have been inspected and valued for forestry purposes. These areas are commonages and the position regarding title to them is so involved that no progress towards acquisition has been possible up to the present. It is hoped that the Forestry Act, 1956, which was passed recently, will provide a solution to this and other cases in which title difficulties made acquisition impossible; the case is one of those listed for review under the Act.
