Vol. 156 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Closing of Waterford Garda Station.

asked the Minister for Justice whether it is proposed to close down the Garda Síochána station at Ballinamult, County Waterford, and, if so, if he will state the reasons for this decision, and what alternative arrangements it is proposed to make for policing the area in which is located a very important and busy creamery which holds considerable sums of money from time to time; and whether, having regard to the fact that the neighbouring Garda Síochána stations are about six miles from the Ballinamult station, he will have the decision reviewed.

It has been decided to close Ballinamult Garda station because the commissioner is satisfied that the area served by the station, which is practically crimeless, can be adequately policed from the adjoining sub-districts. It is not proposed to alter the decision which has been taken to close the station.
