Vol. 156 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Piers.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the result of the survey carried out at the fishing pier at Greencastle, County Donegal, and if he is now in a position to state when repairs will be carried out.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the present position in regard to the proposal to carry out repairs to Greencastle pier, County Donegal, and what is the cause of the delay in carrying out this necessary work.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 12 and 13 together.

A survey has been carried out at Greencastle harbour by the Office of Public Works in connection with a proposal for further dredging operations there. The report on the survey has not yet been received in my Department.

No representations have been made to my Department regarding the need for repairs to the pier but, in any event, any representations in that regard should be made to the Donegal County Council who are responsible for the maintenance of the structure in question.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the present position in regard to the proposed improvements at Portaleen pier, Glengad, County Donegal, and when it is proposed to start work.

I understand that the engineering section of the Office of Public Works asked the Donegal County Council engineer in February last for some further information in regard to the proposals submitted by the council for improvement of the landing facilities at Portaleen, that the requisite information has not yet been received and that in its absence consideration of the proposals cannot be proceeded with in the Office of Public Works.

I understand that the Donegal county engineer has sent to the Board of Works full plans and specifications as had been asked for. Does the Parliamentary Secretary say that no plans have been submitted by the Donegal County Council?

The Donegal county engineer was asked for some further information in regard to the proposal submitted by the council and he has not as yet supplied that information. When he does, I am sure it will be considered without delay.

Could the Parliamentary Secretary say what is the nature of that information?

The information was requested by the Office of Public Works and not by my Department. When the information is received, I can assure the Deputy that I shall ask the Office of Public Works to hasten the matter as much as possible.
