Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Condition of Dublin River.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that residents of the Inchicore district have for many years been complaining of the filthy condition of the Camac River and the adjoining millrace, that, because of the discharge of sludge from neighbouring mills, a very offensive smell is caused, and that representations in the matter have frequently been made to the Dublin Corporation and the County Council; whether there have been negotiations between these two bodies with a view to remedying this long standing grievance, and, if so, with what result; further, whether he has received any proposals in the matter.

I am aware that complaints have been made over a number of years regarding the condition of the Camac River and that both the Dublin Corporation and the County Council have given the matter considerable attention from time to time. I am not aware of any formal negotiations between these bodies to secure an improvement and I have received no proposals in the matter.
