Vol. 157 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Power Station.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when the E.S.B. decided, in agreement with Bord na Móna, to substitute a single station at Bellacorick for the two power stations which it was proposed to erect at Bellacorick and Bangor-Erris, respectively.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the decision in this matter was taken by the board on 24th January, 1956.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the original estimated cost of the proposed generating stations and other buildings, including plant, at (i) Bellacorick and (ii) Bangor-Erris, and (b) the estimated increased cost of the Bellacorick station arising out of the decision to increase its total installed generating capacity.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the original estimated cost of the proposed generating station and other buildings, including plant, at Bellacorick was £2,600,000 for 40 MW capacity and at Bangor-Erris £1,300,000 for 20 MW capacity. The estimated cost of the Bellacorick station arising out of the decision to increase the total installed capacity to 60 MW is £3,600,000.
