Vol. 157 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drugs for Medical Card Holders.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that private practitioners, who are attending persons who are holders of general medical service cards, are in some cases prescribing expensive drugs for such persons, and, if so, if he will give directions as to how such cases are to be dealt with by the health authorities.

I presume that the Deputy is referring to private medical practitioners who are providing services under the maternity and infant scheme on behalf of health authorities. Arrangements under the scheme are such that holders of medical cards can get any necessary drugs or medicines without charge on the prescription of the doctor with whom they are registered.
