Vol. 157 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Licences—Reciprocal Arrangements.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that a holder of a Six-County driving licence is not required to have a Twenty-Six County licence when using his car in this part of the country, and, if so, if he will take steps to have a reciprocal arrangement made for the benefit of motorists who bring their cars into the Six-County area.

The arrangement whereby a visitor can drive here on his own driving licence extends to all visitors and was effected unilaterally in the interests of this country, chiefly in order to encourage the tourist trade. Most countries have adopted similar measures and I understand that the matter is under consideration by the responsible authorities in the Six Counties.
