Vol. 157 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - National Development Fund—Grants to Cork County Council.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the total amount of the grant from the National Development Fund made available to Cork County Council, and if he will give particulars of the various schemes which are to be financed from the grant and which have been approved by his Department.

Grants totalling £297,000 have been allocated to Cork County Council from National Development Fund allocations made available to the Department. These grants have been devoted to the following purposes:—Road works, £237,000; Local Authorities (Works) Act schemes, £60,000.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has yet reached a decision on the question of making grants available from the National Development Fund for works of coast protection from erosion and flooding, and, if so, if he will expedite a decision on the proposals of the Cork County Council for protection works in the area from Warren, Ballymacoda, through Garryvoe to Ballycotton, County Cork.

As I pointed out in reply to a question from the Deputy on the 26th October last, there are no effective proposals before me for a coast protection scheme in this area. Since then the Minister for Finance has announced that he proposes to introduce legislation to assist local authorities in dealing with problems of this kind.
