Vol. 157 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Social Insurance Benefits.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that, notwithstanding the fact that C.I.E. workers will be required to pay an extra 5d. for social welfare stamps when the proposed new rates of benefit become operative, the company will reduce its sickness benefit contribution pro rata to the State increase, with the result that the workers will be afforded no extra benefit in respect of increased contributions, and that the company has taken similar action in the past; and, if so, if he will make a statement on the matter.

The rates of sick pay which employees of C.I.E. receive from the company are, in accordance with existing legislation, a matter for agreement between the trade unions catering for the workers and C.I.E.
