Vol. 158 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tipperary Copper Mine.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the copper mine at Lackamore, Newport, County Tipperary, has been surveyed, and, if so, with what result.

The deposit to which the Deputy refers was examined as recently as January, 1955, and the information which was obtained as a result of this, and previous examinations, is made available by the Geological Survey Office to any person who is interested in the deposit. The Deputy will understand that development is a matter for private enterprise and the results of the examinations of the deposit have been brought to the notice of persons who have made inquiries as to the existence of copper deposits. I will be prepared to grant any necessary facilities, under the Minerals Development Act, 1940, in relation to this deposit to an applicant who can satisfy the customary conditions as to financial and technical resources.
