Vol. 158 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork County Council Loan.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reasons for the delay in sanctioning the application of the Cork County Council for a loan of £200,000 for advances under the Small Dwellings Acquisition Acts, which was sent to his Department some four months ago.

The borrowing proposed by the council was sanctioned on 13th March last, but the issue of instalments therefrom does not appear to be required at present, as £180,000 remains undrawn from an earlier loan of £200,000 which was authorised for issue from the Local Loans Fund in January last.

Would the Minister repeat that reply? I think that question was put down for political purposes.

A Deputy is entitled to put down any question he wishes with reference to the administration of any particular Department.

I would like to have the Minister check on this matter. As another member of Cork County Council, I am informed that there is a hold-up and I am in favour of having the whole matter cleared up.

The application for the £200,000 was received on 29th February, and permission for the borrowing was sanctioned on the 13th March. On the same date, the loan was recommended to the Commissioners of Public Works for issue from the Local Loans Fund. The sum of £180,000 remains undrawn from an earlier loan of £200,000 authorised for issue from the Local Loans Fund in January last.

Perhaps it was for a different purpose.
