Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Accident Statistics.

Mr. Brady

asked the Minister for Justice if, in respect of road accidents in the period 1st January, 1946, to the latest available date, he will state (a) the number of such accidents, (b) the number of accidents resulting in deaths, (c) the number of (i) children and (ii) adults, killed, (d) the number of prosecutions, and (e) the number of convictions.

I am not in a position to furnish the Deputy with the particulars requested at (d) and (e) of his question. These figures are not readily available and their preparation would require considerable research involving much time and trouble. I have, however, obtained particulars of all prosecutions and convictions for dangerous and careless driving during the period in question and these figures, together with the other figures sought, will be given in a tabular statement which, with the permission of the Ceann Comhairle, I propose to have circulated with the Official Report.
