Vol. 159 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State and Local Authority Lands.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the approximate total area of land held by (a) Departments of State, (b) local authorities, and (c) State-sponsored bodies.

The total area of land occupied by Departments of State as shown on the valuation lists at 1st March, 1956, and on which contribution in lieu of rates was payable, was 326,299 acres. Other lands occupied by Departments and not included in this figure totalled 14,721 acres. These figures exclude 122,711 acres held for distribution by the Land Commission on 31st March, 1956.

Particulars in respect of land held by local authorities and State-sponsored bodies are not readily available to my Department.
