Vol. 159 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Migrants' Cross-Channel Sailing Conditions.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the many serious complaints, made by migrant workers returning from work in England, concerning the wretched conditions which prevail in third class sailing berths, and that such migrants are huddled together in totally inadequate and unhygienic accommodation; and whether, with a view to bringing such conditions to an end, he will have an inspection carried out.

I am not aware of any such complaints, but if particulars are provided of any vessels in which the accommodation is alleged to be inadequate, I will have the matter investigated.
