Vol. 159 No. 10

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as on the Order Paper— item No. 8 (Votes 1 to 14, inclusive) and items Nos. 2, 3, 4 and 1, all as on the Order Paper. It is proposed to take item No. 2 immediately after the finance group of Estimates and, when completed, to resume the order. It is also proposed that consideration of Government business be not interrupted to-day at the time fixed for taking the business of Private Members.

On the order of business, may I ask the Taoiseach, through you, if he would be prepared to take a motion tabled in the names of Deputies John Tully, Miss O'Connor and myself, in regard to the need for a long-term economic development plan, with his Estimate?

I think that the Deputy communicated with me only this morning. Had he done so earlier, it might have been possible to arrange it, but I think it would not be possible to do so at this stage. In any case, it is a matter which would require consideration and possibly more wide discussion than would arise in the discussion of the Estimate, which is confined to Government policy.

Does the Taoiseach intend that the business of the House should finish this week?

That is the intention —to-morrow.
