Vol. 159 No. 10

Committee on Finance. - Vote 4—Central Statistics Office.

I move:—

That a sum not exceeding £116,030 be granted to complete the sum necessary to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending on the 31st day of March, 1957, for the Salaries and Expenses of the Central Statistics Office.

Mr. de Valera

That office costs a certain amount of money. I am one of those who believe in its great value to the State and the people but, naturally, I ask the question what is the use of it if we have Ministers of the Government on occasion pooh-poohing the statistics that are supplied to us by that Department?

That is a six-mark question now.

It is a no-mark question. It does not require any answer.

Vote put and agreed to.
