Vol. 160 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Acquisition of Tipperary Estate.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission have made any progress in connection with the taking over of the Whitefield estate, Ballyhasty, Cloughjordan, County Tipperary, for division among deserving local applicants.

Following completion of the investigations referred to in my reply to the Deputy's questions on 27th June and 11th July last, the Land Commission have decided to take no further action for the present regarding the acquisition of this estate which comprises some 450 acres in four townlands. Whilst the Land Commission are at present precluded by law from proceeding compulsorily to acquire the lands of Ballyhasty containing about 102 acres which were offered for sale, the possibility of negotiating a voluntary purchase of these particular lands was investigated but such an arrangement did not prove feasible.
