Vol. 160 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Oyster Fisheries.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will examine the possibility of developing oyster fisheries (a) between Bray Head, Ballinskelligs and Portmagee, and (b) in the vicinity of the oyster bed pier, Sneem.

My Department has in hands an oyster restocking scheme in Clew Bay, County Mayo, in connection with which certain investigations are being made into the problems of oyster culture. When such investigations have advanced to a stage at which the conditions requisite for successful oyster propagation can be adequately determined it will then be opportune to consider the problem of restocking other public beds and the two areas mentioned in the Deputy's question will be among those to be considered then.
