Vol. 160 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Disability Allowances.

asked the Minister for Health whether he is aware that in County Mayo disability allowances have been reduced by 10 per cent. during the current month, and whether he will take steps to have this reduction restored immediately.

I am informed that, in an endeavour to keep the total expenditure in the current year in County Mayo on disabled persons' allowances within the limit of the amount of money provided by the county council in the annual estimate adopted by them, it was decided to reduce as from the 7th October last the allowance of each recipient by 2/- per week. The matter was considered by the county council at their meeting of the 20th October and the council decided to provide the moneys necessary to restore as from the 7th October the deductions made from recipients of the allowance.
