Vol. 160 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Donegal Postal Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if, with a view to serving the needs of almost 100 families, he will consider providing a post office or telephone facilities in the Ardmeen and Croveigh districts, near Dungloe, County Donegal.

The establishment of a sub-post office or the provision of public telephone facilities in the Ardmeen-Croveigh district would not be justified having regard to the cost they would involve and the limited use likely to be made of them.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs why it was found necessary last September to change the site of a letter-box at Keadue crossroads near Burtonport, County Donegal, which was provided only seven months previously for the residents of Upper Keadue and Strand areas; if he will state the distance between the original location and the present location of the letter-box, and the cost of the transfer.

Following the provision of a letter-box at Upper Keadue crossroads, I received representations that the location of the box was not the most suitable one for the majority of the local residents. Inquiry showed that the representations were well-founded, the greater concentration of houses being in Lower Keadue rather than Upper Keadue, and the site of the box was accordingly changed to Keadue national school which is about 300 yards distant from the original site. The cost of the transfer was £2 10s.
