Vol. 160 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Loans

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that as a result of the operation of Section 19 (b) of the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1956, great hardship is caused to applicants for loans because they have to pay deposits which are as much as two and a half times greater than heretofore, and if he will take steps to rectify the position.

In cases in which complaints of this nature have been made I have found that the difficulties complained of arise from the fact that the selling prices of some houses in the Dublin area exceed substantially the market values of the houses as determined by the local authorities concerned in accordance with statute. I do not see any reason why selling prices should exceed market values as so determined.
