Vol. 160 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Roscommon Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in relation to County Roscommon in respect of the current financial year the total number of and the amount allocated for (a) rural improvement schemes, (b) bog development schemes, and (c) minor relief schemes.

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows, viz:—

(a) Rural Improvements Scheme: There is no fixed allocation; 15 schemes costing £3,922 have been approved in the period to the 31st October, 1956.

(b) Bog Development Schemes: £7,310 has been allocated for 61 schemes.

(c) Minor Employment Schemes: £2,820 has been allocated for 18 schemes.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary now agree that the reduction shown by those figures is not 16 per cent. as suggested by the Taoiseach but 50 per cent. of a reduction for schemes for improvement purposes in rural areas?

That is only a bit of a rumour.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the figure last year for bog development schemes was £15,555 expended? The figure he has given this year is £7,000 odd. Is the Parliamentary Secretary able to add and substract?

The Deputy is a bit mixed in his figures.

A 50 per cent. reduction.
