Vol. 160 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in Mayo.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if the E.S.B. will take steps to extend rural electrification to the Geesala district, County Mayo.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that an official canvass is at present being carried out in the Geesala area. When the returns are available the area will be considered for selection, and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns compare with those for other areas awaiting development at the time in the Sligo district.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the fact that the Glenamoy experimental station is in the centre of the Barnatra, Pullathomas and Glenamoy areas, County Mayo, the E.S.B. will extend rural electrification to these areas.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the village of Barnatra and its immediate vicinity are included in the Glencastle area, in which an official canvass under the rural electrification scheme was completed recently. I am also informed by the board that Pullathomas is included in the Glenamoy area, in which an official canvass will be undertaken in the near future. These areas will be considered for selection by the board in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns for the areas compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Sligo district.
