Vol. 160 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authority Employees' Arbitration Awards.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total cost to the Central Fund of the various increases granted to certain employees of local authorities in consequence of awards made under the Civil Service arbitration scheme.

The Civil Service arbitration scheme does not apply to employees of local authorities and consequently no increases were paid to such employees in consequence of awards made under that scheme. The estimated annual cost to the Exchequer of the recoupment to health authorities of cost-of-living bonus granted by such authorities to their employees with effect from the 1st November, 1952, is £182,000. The estimated annual cost of the increases granted with effect from 1st November, 1955, is £233,000.
