Vol. 160 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers (resumed). - Price of Wheat.

Major de Valera

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the present inclusive price per 20 stone barrel, as delivered, of home-grown and imported wheat.

Figures for the average price paid to growers for green millable wheat of the 1956 harvest are not yet available but it is estimated that the average price paid to growers for such wheat of the 1955 harvest was 68/2 per barrel. This figure is liable to revision. The average c.i.f. price of imported wheat for the period August-October, 1956, the latest three-month period available, for seed wheat was 95/11 per barrel and for other wheat was 73/10 per barrel.

Major de Valera

Since the Parliamentary Secretary cannot give me the corresponding figure for the 1956 harvest, could he give me the import price corresponding to the figure he has given? These figures do not correspond. Am I not right in that?

I am afraid I could not give the Deputy that figure at this stage.

And there is also the element of moisture content.
