Vol. 161 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Living Conditions of Aged Persons.

asked the Minister for Health if he will set up a commission of inquiry into the standards of nutrition and living conditions in health and sickness, including the scope of domiciliary nursing care, in respect of persons over 65 years of age, living in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick.

I do not consider that such a wide inquiry regarding a limited class would serve a sufficiently useful purpose to justify the work involved.

Would the Minister consider setting up a limited inquiry, if he wishes to, in order to find out if the standard of nutrition, living conditions and domiciliary nursing care of the aged are satisfactory? Will the Minister state if he is satisfied that the conditions in question are satisfactory?

I cannot express an opinion on matters on which I have no detailed knowledge. If the Deputy would put down a question, defining the limited inquiry which he would suggest, then I shall consider the matter.
