Vol. 161 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Schools Dental Scheme.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received representations from the Irish Dental Association regarding equipment supplied to dentists employed by local authorities under the schools dental scheme; and whether he is aware that considerable dissatisfaction exists within the association on this question; and if he will institute inquiries into the matter, and take such steps as are necessary to remedy the position.

I understand that this matter has been mentioned by representatives of the Irish Dental Association in the course of discussions in my Department.

As the Deputy will appreciate, the primary responsibility rests with the health authorities concerned. The schools dental service generally, including the equipment provided, has been improved considerably in recent years but I understand that in some areas the position is still not satisfactory. In such cases, as opportunity offered, steps have been taken to bring about an improvement and this process is continuing.
