Vol. 161 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Discharge of Cork Forestry Workers.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that during recent months a large number of men have been discharged from forestry work at Kilworth forest, County Cork, and that many of them are still unemployed; and whether he will now consider reemploying them.

I am aware that there was a reduction in forestry staff at Kilworth last September when the arrears of thinning work which had accumulated over a number of years had been disposed of. The present staff is adequate to deal with the quantity of work to be done at the centre and the employment of additional men there could not be justified unless there is a considerable improvement in the intake of suitable forestry land in the district.
