Vol. 161 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Building of Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state the average number of new national schools (a) which it is planned to build annually over the next five years, and (b) completed in the nine years 1947/48 to 1955/56.

Because of financial and other reasons it is not feasible to formulate a definite plan to provide for the erection of a particular number of schools annually over the next five years. As I have informed the Deputy in reply to his earlier question to-day, everything possible is being done and will continue to be done to achieve the maximum output of new schools which circumstances will permit.

The number of new schools completed in the nine years from 1947/48 to 1955/56 was 402.
