Vol. 161 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification in West Galway.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (1) when the E.S.B. carried out the last canvass of the following areas, viz., Bealadangan, Lettermore, Tiernee, and Lettermullen, (2) the percentage of acceptors in each area, and (3) when he expects rural electrification to be extended to these areas.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that an official canvass of the Camus area, which includes Bealadangan, was carried out in the late summer of 1955 and that the percentage of acceptances was 32.8 per cent. The official canvass of the Lettermore area, which includes Lettermore, Tiernee and Lettermullen was carried out early in 1956, and the percentage of acceptances was 57.1 per cent.

The returns for these areas did not compare favourably with those for other areas awaiting development in the board's Galway district. They will be reconsidered on future occasions and the board's decision will depend on how the returns there compare with those for other areas awaiting development in the Galway district.
